De Waterlanders / Amersfoort 1997

Aan de rand van de nieuwbouwwijk Nieuwland in Amersfoort was in de herfst van 1997 een tijdelijk kunstwerk te beleven, gebouwd op en rondom drie eilandjes in het toekomstig waterpark. De installatie is een verbeelding van de idee dat de oorspronkelijke bewoners van deze plek door de bouwactiviteiten en door de vestiging van nieuwe bewoners teruggedrongen zijn naar het laatste stukje ongerepte natuur. Vanaf hun eilandjes betoeteren ze de buitenwereld en hangen letterlijk de vuile was buiten. Zij voeden zich met zonne-energie en vermaken zich aan de waterkant met apparaten die namen hebben als: de stille omgang, de watervalmachine en de steigerxylofoon.

To the edge of the new district, named Nieuwland, in Amersfoort in the autumn of 1997 a temporary art work had been built, on and around three small islands in the future water park. The installation is an imagination of the idea that the original occupants of this area are pushed back to the last site of untouched nature by the construction activities and by the establishment of new occupants. They trumpet from their small islands to the outside world and they literally hang out their dirty laundry. They feed themselves with solar energy and amuse themselves on the water side with machines which have names as: the quiet procession, the waterfall machine and the pier xylophone.
